The Myitkyina-Putao road, which had been closed for 10 days, was temporarily reopened on Saturday, November 1, allowing both inbound and outbound vehicles to pass for just one day, before being closed again on Sunday, according to local drivers.

The route was initially shut down suddenly on October 23, reportedly due to military operations. It was later reopened on October 27 for outbound vehicles only. Following that, on November 1, authorities also allowed inbound vehicles to travel for one day, sources said.

“It was reopened on Saturday. Both inbound and outbound vehicles were allowed to pass, but it was closed again on Sunday. We don’t know when it will reopen. We’ve heard that it might open again after the full moon day of Tazaungtaing, but we’re not sure,” said one driver.

Due to the current situation along the Myitkyina-Putao road, checkpoints are not accepting perishable goods that could spoil within a few days, and are instead allowing only non-perishable items to be transported, according to reports.

Frequent closures of the Putao road have caused basic commodity prices in the Putao region to start rising, raising concerns among locals about growing hardship and scarcity.
