Recruitment of New Soldiers Underway in Myitkyina

It is reported that in Myitkyina, Kachin State, the military has been rounding up young men and youth in recent days to conscript them as new soldiers.

According to a local resident, military council troops have been arresting not only young people moving around the city after 7 p.m., but also those using WiFi at internet cafés.

“They are not only arresting people who go to the night market or move around here and there, but they are also arresting those who are using WiFi at WiFi shops,” a local resident said.

In addition, it is reported that young people in Hpakant, Mohnyin, and Mogaung townships are also being arrested by the military in cooperation with SNA troops.

Locals say that among those being rounded up by the military are not only men but also women, and that these arrests are believed to be for recruiting new soldiers for the 20 week military training program.
