Residents of Sum Pyi Yang Village, located along the Putao-Myitkyina road, are growing increasingly concerned about potential clashes due to regular military movements by the Military Council's combined forces since early July, according to local reports.
The Military Council forces have been stationed in Sum Pyi Yang Village since May 2024. Recently, they have reinforced their troops and resumed military operations, heightening fears among locals of renewed fighting, a Sum Pyi Yang resident said- “It’s been over a year since we’ve had to flee and live in fear because the military has been stationed in Sum Pyi Yang Village.
They’ve been continuously conducting military operations. We haven’t been able to return to check on the village for over a year. With their ongoing movements, we’re in a state of constant vigilance,” a local resident stated.
The military base in Sum Pyi Yang Village is occupied by a significant number of Military Council and allied Militia forces. Similarly, in Lungsha Yang Village, the Military Council is reportedly conducting operations with a large troop presence, according to sources.
Additionally, at the Tang Hpare checkpoint on the Myitkyina-Putao road, strict inspections are being conducted on passersby. Only individuals with identification from Putao, Sumprabum, or Injangyang are being allowed to pass, according to travelers.
