It has been reported that because the junta’s military offensives involve attacks both on the ground and by aircraft and because they have increasingly carried out targeted strikes even in areas where no clashes are taking place, locals from the Indaw area, now under control of resistance forces, have not yet dared to return to their homes.
Indaw town was seized by the KIA and allied forces in April, and it has now been under NUG control for more than six months. However, due to fears of junta airstrikes, civilians from 12 villages along the Indaw-Bhamaw road have still not been able to return to their native places.
These displaced civilians are those who fled as early as March 2023, before the battle to capture Indaw began, after their villages were hit by junta airstrikes and many homes were burned and destroyed. Only a small number of them have been able to return home and resettle.
Locals report that military aircraft continue to circle the Indaw area daily, causing ongoing fear among residents. The battle for Indaw was a joint operation carried out by the KIA, the ABSDF, and PDF forces, which successfully captured the area.
