As the military junta continues to conduct routine stop and search checks at intersections and road junctions across Myitkyina, residents say inspections have intensified in recent days in the Chyarapati area, where military vehicles are stationed on roads to carry out checks, causing growing concern among locals.

“They are not stationed at one place all the time. They stop whenever they feel like it, parking military vehicles on the road and conducting checks. Anyone who happens to pass by at that time is subjected to thorough inspection. Pedestrians must carry their ID cards, and civil servants must carry their official service cards. If they don’t have them, they are told it’s not allowed,” a Myitkyina resident explained.

Local residents said they now have to be cautious even when traveling within the city, and that sudden stop and search inspections like these are causing disruptions to daily movement.

Another resident added that the checks are not limited to suspicious individuals, but that everyone passing through is being stopped and inspected.

A community elder said that within Myitkyina, areas where the military junta most frequently conducts stop and search inspections include Chyarapati, Hti Win, Bala Min Htin Bridge, the Pa La Na checkpoint, the Pa La Na High School junction, and the Nawng Nang–Ying Hkaw road junction. Due to these regular inspections, residents are traveling with heightened caution.
