A report by Kachin Human Rights Watch (KHRW) indicates that human rights violations against women in Kachin State have escalated to alarming levels, surpassing those in other regions of Myanmar.
Since the military coup, incidents of violence have steadily increased, with a growing number of women being killed by unidentified perpetrators between February and March 8, 2025.
Myitkyina has reported the highest number of female homicides, with additional cases of violent killings occurring in Waingmaw and Laiza. Specific incidents include the killing of a person in a residence in Lekone Ward, Myitkyina, on February 14. On February 17, a woman was murdered following a motorcycle robbery near the Computer University in Shan Su Taung Ward. Additionally, on February 22, three young girls were abducted from the Jeyang IDP camp near Laiza, the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) headquarters, and were later found dead on February 26.

Further incidents include a woman being fatally stabbed in Sitapru Ward on March 1, a mother brutally murdered at a garbage dump near B.E.H.S No. (6) in Injang Dung Ward on March 4, and another woman killed in a residence in Ward No. (5) of Waingmaw Town on March 5.
The perpetrators and those responsible for ordering these attacks remain unidentified, contributing to ongoing threats to women's safety and a lack of accountability.
KHRW has called for urgent measures to address the deteriorating security situation and improve protections for women in Kachin State. The increasing violence underscores the dire need for intervention to prevent further harm and ensure justice for victims.
