Following the clashes that broke out near Htang Ga Village in the Macyhangbaw area between October 11 and 13, the road in the eastern region remains blocked as of now, according to local sources.
A local resident said regarding the road closure, “It’s been nearly ten days since the road was closed. I wanted to return to my village after completing a training, but I’m still stuck in Machyangbaw because the road hasn’t reopened yet. I heard it might take a while before it opens. Some people got stuck while sending students back home, and some who went to finish their mountain farming can’t return because the road is closed.”
The blocked road in the eastern part of Putao is the only route connecting the area. It is mainly used by locals from the Machyangbaw region for plantation work, gold mining, and other travel. Moreover, it serves as the only transport route for food supplies to the mountain region, causing significant difficulties for residents, sources said.
Although there had been no prior clashes in the area, fighting broke out after junta troops and allied militia began military movements and took positions near Htang Ga Village. This led to the road being closed, locals explained.
The eastern region of Putao includes several connected villages such as Dinghkyet, Marawt, Ding Ga, Dingsa, Mapyung Ga, and Machyang Ga. As military tensions are likely to escalate in the area, residents are remaining cautious, according to reports.
