Although a month has passed since the powerful Sagaing earthquake struck on April 28, the bodies of those killed in the disaster are still being recovered, according to reports.
The earthquake has caused widespread destruction across the country, damaging over 60,000 homes (63,854) and affecting more than 600,000 people (629,206). The State Administration Council’s (SAC) statement reveals that the death toll stands at nearly 4,000 (3,769), with over 5,000 (5,106) injured and 107 people still missing.
The Sagaing earthquake, which claimed thousands of lives and caused massive destruction, struck at 12:50 PM on March 28. By April 28, a full month had passed since the disaster. Following the major quake, hundreds of aftershocks were recorded.
Although Myanmar received aid from 26 countries worldwide, victims of the earthquake have reported to news agencies that the SAC’s rescue operations and assistance to affected communities have been ineffective.
