It has now been seven months since the urban battle for Banmaw began. Although ground fighting has slightly subsided recently, the military council continues to reinforce its troops and launches daily attacks using drones and bombs.

A frontline source said: “There’s no major ground fighting right now, but every day they’re firing modern drones. It’s worrying. The military is reinforcing its strength. Both sides are still exchanging heavy artillery. At this point, it’s become a drone war.”

On July 2, the military council carried out 25 drone bomb attacks on the Banmaw area and continues to shell daily with what is believed to be 60mm artillery.

Since the start of the Banmaw urban offensive on December 5, 2024, today marks the seventh month of fighting, which has resulted in heavy casualties on both sides.

During these seven months, the revolutionary joint forces have captured most airfields and military bases in the area. Currently, only SAC’s (State Administration Council) 21st and 47th Light Infantry Battalions and a few smaller outposts remain under military control.

The military council, meanwhile, is fiercely resisting the fall of Banmaw, relying on airstrikes and drone bombs for defense. It is also reinforcing its troops in the Banmaw area via river routes using boats.

Additionally, both the military council and the revolutionary joint forces are striving to regain control of Banmaw town, as well as other previously lost areas such as Wainmaw and Hpakant.
