“Water levels have started to go down, but from Je Yang to Alen Bum, the roads are completely destroyed. The bridges have also collapsed. The Ja Htu Kawng IDP camp has been hit quite badly. No casualties reported so far, but we still don’t know the full extent,” said a local resident from Laiza, home to the KIA headquarters.
Since early this morning, the flooding in Laiza, the administrative base of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), has begun gradually subsiding by afternoon. However, significant damage has already occurred, with roads severely destroyed, homes and vehicles swept away, and even border fences built by China now damaged or washed away.
Currently, KIA troops and civilians are working together to carry out rescue and relief operations.
