According to a post on the Facebook page of the Kachin Traditional Culture and Literature Association (JHG), representatives from both Shan and Kachin communities have met to discuss and coordinate in order to prevent ethnic tensions following recent incidents, including the killing of 14 Kachin civilians from Inddaw Gyi area by the Shan Ni (SNA) armed group and other actions aimed at driving Kachin people out of their homes.

The meeting was held on August 11 in Myitkyina, attended by the Chairperson and Secretary of JHG, senior officials from PCG and WMR, the Minister for Social Affairs, and from the Shan Ni side, leaders in the traditional cultural sector and respected Shan cultural elders. The two communities discussed difficulties faced in living together in the same areas.

During the coordination meeting, they specifically discussed the recent incidents in Nant Mun, Mai Nawng, and Mamung Kong villages in the Inddaw Gyi area, where the Shan Ni (SNA) forces allegedly killed Kachin civilians without cause.

It is also reported that they discussed difficulties encountered by both Shan and Kachin ethnic residents living together in Kachin State.

According to local sources, since July 15 the Shan Ni forces have attacked and seized Nant Mun, Mai Nawng, and Mamung Kong towns, and then carried out a campaign to drive Kachin people from the area, subjecting them to various forms of oppression, intimidation, arrest, torture, and killing.
