Residents of Myitkyina, Kachin State, reported that some areas in the city have regained access to Mytel phone lines since the morning of June 16.

Although Mytel phone lines, which are operated by the military, have been restored in some parts of Myitkyina, internet services are still unavailable. A local resident said, “Since yesterday morning, phone lines have been available, but the internet is still not working. Only the 'E' (Edge) symbol appears for internet connectivity.”

In most neighborhoods across Kachin State, phone services from operators such as Atom (formerly Telenor), Ooredoo, and MPT are only partially available, and internet access remains unavailable at present.

Currently, people are relying on Wi-Fi devices such as Starlink, with shops providing access at rates starting from 1,000- 2000 kyats per hour.

It is noted that the military council abruptly cut off internet and phone services in Kachin State on June 21, 2024, and these restrictions have continued for nearly a year, with phone and internet lines still largely blocked.
