Although travel and the transport of some raw goods were allowed last week on the Kamai-Hpakant road and Inddaw Gyi–Hpakant road, which had previously been closed due to the military situation on both sides, certain goods remain prohibited from being transported until now.

A person close to a checkpoint said, "They allow travelers to pass, and they permit some fresh and dried goods to be transported, but they do not allow medicines, rice, cooking oil, gasoline, diesel, and women’s monthly use items to be carried. On the Kamai road side, it has been over two or three months already, and on the Inddaw Gyi side, it has been over one month."

Not only basic necessities such as rice and cooking oil, but also women’s monthly use items, essential healthcare medicines, as well as fuel and diesel, are still prohibited from being transported.

"Some still have rice to eat, so they remain silent. For people like us, if there’s no food, then truly, there’s nothing at all. When we go to buy rice, rice trucks aren’t coming in, so the prices are raised for sale. Sellers can only sell what they still have, so we even have to be grateful just to get to buy it. Even if the price is not reasonable, we still have to buy and eat," said a Hpakant resident.

Due to the intense fighting between the two sides, local residents of Hpakant who are already worried about their safety in daily life now also face not only soaring commodity prices but also shortages of goods.
