It is learned that some schools in Kachin State have been temporarily closed due to intensified clashes since late August, during which the Military Council has mainly relied on airstrikes.
A displaced civilian explained:
“In the areas of Gara Yang, Kazu, and Dabak along the Myitkyina-Bhamo road, many displaced people have already resettled. Recently, clashes near Waimaw have become more frequent. One day, aircraft were flying around, so all schools in Gara Yang had to be temporarily closed. They will only be reopened depending on the situation.”
It is also learned that schools in Waimaw area have been shut down since September 2 due to heavy clashes, together with attacks supported by airstrikes, drones, and heavy artillery fire from the Military Council. Authorities said the schools would reopen once the security situation improves.
Similarly, in Hpakant area, where fighting has also intensified, all government schools have been ordered to temporarily close starting from September 2, according to the Military Council.
