Since last week, the military regime has been confiscating and detaining Starlink Wi-Fi devices across the Putao region, resulting in limited internet access. However, according to local residents, Starlink Wi-Fi devices have been back in use in the Macyhangbaw area since December 15.
“For the whole of last week, we couldn’t use the internet because the military was seizing Starlink devices everywhere. Only yesterday did we get the connection back. The owners had to pay 1.5 million kyats to redeem the Starlink devices,” said a local resident.
It is reported that in the Putao region, following a recent visit by the Northern Regional Military Command headquarters, gold mining sites were also shut down, and Starlink Wi-Fi devices began to be confiscated and detained by the military.
Currently, in the Putao region, the military regime is intensifying its military activities. In addition, gold workers inside gold mining sites are being arrested, backhoes are being seized and detained, and some of those arrested are reportedly being forced to dig trenches for the military.
Meanwhile, clashes have also been occurring in the Nhka Ga area of Putao Township, and military tensions between the two sides remain high.
