It has been reported from local residents that beginning on December 9, military council troops in Putao town started confiscating all Starlink devices installed at various internet shops in different wards.
“Rumors started spreading since yesterday. Today, all the shops in our Lungjut Ward and near the airport area have already been searched and their devices seized. They didn’t give any reason, and we don’t even know where they took them,” a local Starlink device owner told Pajau Media on the 9th.
Around mid November, after Mytel mobile networks and internet connections (including VPN access) began functioning again in some parts of Putao township, such immediate confiscation operations have reportedly been carried out in the urban wards.
It is reported that phone and internet networks across Kachin State have been cut for more than a year, and Starlink internet shops had begun emerging in many areas. Following that, the military council troops have frequently conducted confiscations, restrictions, and tax collections.
