State Administration Council’s Violent Actions Result in Deaths of 92 Women and 81 Injuries in May 2025

Since the coup in 2021, the State Administration Council (SAC) has committed war crimes, crimes against humanity, and various human rights violations over the past four years up to 2025. Due to the military’s brutal actions, 92 women were killed and 81 others were injured in May 2025 alone, according to a report released by the Burmese Women’s Union.
The 92 women who lost their lives in May included 81 killed in military airstrikes, 4 from heavy artillery attacks on civilian homes and villages, 4 from direct killings by the terrorist military, 1 due to denial of medical treatment in prison, and 2 from sexual violence. Among the deceased, 29 were under the age of 18.
Additionally, 81 women sustained injuries, including 70 from airstrikes, 7 from artillery shelling, 3 from landmines, and 1 from sexual violence.
Sagaing Region suffered the highest number of female casualties with 41 deaths, followed by Rakhine State with 16, and Mandalay Region with 14. Kachin State reported 1 death.
Four years have passed since the SAC’s violent coup, during which they have continued to commit crimes against humanity and widespread human rights abuses through various means. As a result, women are losing their lives daily under these atrocities.
