Teenage Robbers Arrested in Myitkyina

In Myitkyina, Kachin State, four out of six young men involved in a robbery were captured by local residents in the Kachin Su ward yesterday afternoon, according to eye witnesses .

Those arrested include three 17 year olds and one 25 year old man . Local residents attribute the rise in theft and robbery in the city to worsening living conditions, lack of employment and income opportunities, and soaring commodity prices .

Over four years after the military coup, oppression by the junta has led to ongoing conflict across many states and regions, including Kachin State. The national economy continues to deteriorate, with inflation now four times higher than in 2021. According to a World Food Programme (WFP) report, one in three people across the country is facing food insecurity and struggling to eat adequately .
