It has been reported that all government schools in Hpakant town, Kachin State, where the military situation remains tense, have been ordered to close temporarily by the Military Council, starting today, September 2.

"A notice was given to parents who were sending their children to school, telling them to bring the children back. They said schools would be closed for a week and would reopen depending on the military situation," said a parent of a student.

According to local sources, some of the children attending schools include the children of military members stationed at Hpakant Byuha Hill and the police station. Beginning today, government schools will be temporarily closed, and if the situation permits, they are expected to reopen on the 8th of this month.

Currently, military tensions and clashes between the two sides continue to occur in Hpakant town, and military activity has intensified in the rural areas outside the town for several months.

Locals stated that while the exact reason for the temporary closure of government schools by the Military Council has not been clearly given, it may be due to the ongoing military situation. Many also expressed concern about potential military movements after the schools are closed.

In addition, residents have also received warnings to evacuate recently from the area of Mashi Kahtawng.
