Temporary Closure of Htigyain–Katha–Indaw Road on Mandalay–Myitkyina Strategic Highway

Due to ongoing clashes, the Htigyain–Katha–Indaw–Nansiaung–Mawlu–Naba road along the Mandalay–Myitkyina strategic highway has been temporarily closed, according to a statement released by the Katha District Command Office under the No. (1) Military Region Headquarters.

The statement said the road closure was imposed because of forced conscription and reports that the military council forces have been transporting weapons and ammunition by disguising them in civilian vehicles.

On the other hand, it was reported that joint Kachin Independence Army (KIA) forces had attacked military convoys transporting weapons and ammunition along the same route. As a result, tensions between both sides remain high, and clashes continue in the area.

Authorities also urged the public to comply with the announcement, warning that they would not take responsibility for any consequences arising from non-compliance.
