Clashes have broken out in Inn Kying Kung, located in Mohnyin Township, Kachin State, between the Shan NI militia, a junta aligned militia and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) of Hopin Township, with current reports indicating the situation remains militarily tense, according to local residents.

“In recent days, Shan Ni troops came to recruit from the village, and the PDFs ambushed them as a countermeasure,” said a local resident from nearby Inn Kying Kung.

The Shan Ni, in coordination with the Phyu Saw Htee militia, launched military operations in both Mohnyin and Hopin areas starting in June, and have been combatting the resistance forces since. Heavy Shan Ni troop recruitment campaigns in the area have caused many youths to flee or go into hiding, reports say.

The Shan Ni militia has reportedly stationed around 70 troops near railway sections between Hopin and Mohnyin, and also near the Myitkyina road, including Inn Kying village, creating an escalation in tensions since the start of August.

Currently, fighting is frequently flaring up not only in Mohnyin but also across other parts of Kachin State, especially in Bhamaw and Hpakant townships, with many local civilians reportedly killed or injured from airstrikes and heavy artillery shelling by the junta forces.
