It has been reported that a public protest was held today, November 20, in the Hpakant area against the illegal sham election that the Military Council intends to conduct nationwide under its leadership, urging people not to vote and rejecting the process outright.
During the Hpakant public protest, more than 50 people joined a marching demonstration called the “Hpakant area Silent Strike.” They held banners reading, “Do not legitimize killing with your vote,” “Don’t vote in the fascist’s fake election,” and “A so-called democratic transition led by dictators will only be like a snake shedding its skin.”
They marched while expressing opposition and rejection of the planned election.
It is also reported that calls were made for people across the country to oppose the election led by the military junta, and for the international community not to recognize this sham process.
Protesters further urged the Chinese government which continues to officially recognize and support the Military Council, despite its acts of bombing, arson, killings, and treating its own citizens as enemies to stop backing the illegal election.
