The military council–appointed Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement saying that the attack on Myitkyina Airport in Kachin State and on passenger aircraft using military weapons constitutes a war crime under the Geneva Conventions and international law.
The military council also stated that the joint KIA-PDF forces deliberately targeted civilian travelers in the attack, causing severe shock and psychological trauma to passengers and airline staff.
On February 20 at around 8:12 p.m., a Myanmar National Airlines (MNA) ATR 72-600 passenger aircraft, which was preparing to depart from Myitkyina to Mandalay, was attacked by an FPV suicide drone.
Due to the attack, reports say that flight operations at Myitkyina Airport in Kachin State will be suspended for three months.
