According to local residents, due to the lack of rice harvesters and the rise in the price of fuel, the rice is not harvested on time and the rice is dry and broken.

“The rice is dry and broken because they were not harvested in time. We had to wait for a long time to the harvester to arrive. The rice harvester has been scheduled since the previous month, and the harvester can come in from today on the 13th of December,” said U Aung Nan, who works on more than 20 acres of land.

On the other hand, the above person went on to say that the price of fuel has risen, the rental price of harvesters has been higher than last year, and they are losing money because they could not harvest on time and the grains were dry and broken.

Last month, the price of harvesting with harvester machinery was 100,000 per acre, but this month, due to the rise in fuel prices and general goods, as well as political tension, the price has increased to more than 100,000.

U Aung Loon, the owner of the harvester, also told Pajau Media that he is facing difficulties due to the increase in fuel prices and limited sales.

“Last year, the price per acre was up to 85,000 kyats. This year, it started at 95,000 kyats in early November, and now the price has risen to 13,000,000 kyats. The difficulty is that if the field is small, you have to rotate the machine a lot, which consumes more time and fuel. If there are farms with small fields, there will be a loss.”

There are only 5 grain harvesters in WaingMaw Town, so the farmers are rushing to get harvesters. According to farmers, this year’s rice harvesting is much later than last year.

This year, due to the current political crisis and the high price of fuel, the farmers, including the owners of the harvesters, are stranded because they cannot harvest the rice on time.
