The internets that have been cut off for two and a half months have been restored

In some townships of Kachin State, Wi-Fi internet from different operators that have been cut for two and a half months have been restored since yesterday, January 15, at 5:00 PM, according to township residents.

In Kachin State, Wi-Fi Internets and phone signals have been cut off since November 2023 last year for two and a half months.

Additionally, MyNet Wi-Fi internet was availabled again from the evening of January 8, before the 76th Kachin State Day. Similarly, since yesterday evening, MyTel Wi-Fi internet has been restored.

According to Ma Hkawn Lung, a resident of Waingmaw who runs an online business, “It’s good to have Wi-Fi back. With Mobile internet, it costs 1,000 to buy a data package of 450 MB, so it costs money and is inconvenient to go around and use it.”

In addition, from Daw Ji Grau, who has lost contact with her children who are currently working abroad for their family’s living “Since the Wi-Fi were cut off, I have not seen my children for a long time, but now the internets have been restored and I can meet with my children via online again,” she said.

MyTel Wi-Fi users will be given a replacement for the monthly fees paid for the internet outage period, according to the My Tel Wi-Fi family’s written notification to the public via Facebook.

The reasons why the internets were cut off in Kachin State were the escalation of military tension in Katha and Tigyaing region after the 1027 operation of the three brothers alliance started and the occupation of Kawlin by joint forces of Kachin Independent Army (KIA) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).

Starting from the previous year of November 7, the Wi-Fi internet and phone signal were cut off in the areas such as Myitkyina, WaingMaw, Bhamo, Hpakant, Mogaung, Mohnyin and Chipwi but since yesterday, the phone signal and Wi-Fi internet were able to utilize again as usual.

Although the internet from different operators have been restored in Kachin State that have been cut off for a long time, locals are worried that it will be cut off again due to the military tensions between the two-armed groups, currently taking place in Kachin State.
