The Local Militia Group Is Giving Military Training To About 200 Youths

Since the beginning of March, the Local Militia (U Tang Gu Tang) group has been giving military training to around 200 local youth, in the village of Sar Hkun Dam, Putao Township, Kachin State.

“Since the previous months, the Militias have organized and announced orders to join the militias in Machan Baw Township, Taran Dam Group, Putao Township, Sar Hkum Dam Group, Zion Village and Upper San Gau Village,” said a local from Machan Baw Township.

The Militia issued an order to young people in some villages to join the militia since February of last year. And some young people were recruited by the Militia through recruitment activities. After this, the Militia is giving military training to around 200 youths in early March.

According to the local resident of Machan Baw, “The militia ask the local youths to join the militia to protect their region, and they said that, they will provide a monthly salary of (200,000 kyats) as well as food to the people who join the militia of their own will. And they will allow those youths to live in peace in their own area. It also has been announced that the persons who were arrested against their own will will be sent to the front line of the battle,” he continued.

Putao local militias have been conducting field operations in various villages of Putao Township and Machan Baw Township since early January this year to mobilize local youth to join the militia.

According to local residents, two months after conducting such field operations, in early March, the SAC and local militia joint forces recruited about 200 local youths and started giving them military training.
