The military council changed the opening time of dawn market in Bhamo township

According to a local of Bhamo, who did not want to be named, the military council has announced that the dawn market time of Bhamo township in Kachin State will be changed from the usual opening time of 1:00 AM to 4:00 AM, starting from today, December 5th.

 “Usually, we go to the market early in the morning when the clock strikes one and at 4:00 AM, the market is already gone. I don’t even know how to sell my goods due to the time they’ve set. It’s as if it’s been decided not to sell at the dawn market,” said the local.

Although the dawn market in Bhamo mostly started open at 1:00 AM, they don’t know the reason why the military council suddenly changed the time.

However, a local resident said, “The dawn market usually starts at one o’clock in the morning. I think that they changed the time due to the rumors to collect the dry food and medicine last week, so it means that the military council controls the in and out of the people from the town.”

Most of the rural residents near Bhamo sell goods at the dawn market and after that they go to work on their own farm. It is said that the changing of the dawn market time will delay the villagers’ daily routine. As a result, the local residents are unsatisfied with the military council’s setting of the dawn market time and they said it has become inconvenient.

Currently, rumors are spreading that the military council is investigating and arresting random people in the downtown of Bhamo and some residents have also said that they are cautious about entering and exiting the town.
