The Price Of Putao-Myitkyina Flight Ticket Has Skyrocketed Within A Week

According to local travelers, the price of Myitkyina-Putao flight ticket has increased by 80,000 kyat from the previous price since yesterday, March 4th.

“Until the end of last February, a flight ticket cost (160,000 kyats), but starting today, March 4th, a flight ticket has increased to (240,000 kyats),” said a Putao resident.

Before the 2021 political transformation, the cost of a flight ticket was less than 100,000 kyats, but after the 2021 political transformation in the country, the price of a flight ticket increased exponentially.

Since last year, 2023, only Myanmar National Airline has been operating on the Myitkyina-Putao route, so it is difficult to buy a ticket because it only operates one route per week.

Last Saturday, March 2nd, the Putao-Myitkyina flight was canceled. There is only one route per week, so it was very difficult to buy flight tickets. The flight tickets are bought in advance from about a month,” said a traveler.

In the past, there were at least three flights a week, but now there is only one flight a week, and Myanmar National Airline is also unable to operate regularly.

The Myitkyina-Putao route has only two routes: by car and by flight. Since the political instability, the number of passengers traveling by car has also decreased.
