According to travelers, the SAC has increased checkpoints on the Myitkyina-Mohnyin highway in Kachin State and is conducting strict checks on travelers.

Along the Myitkyina-Mohnyin highway, since February 1st, the 3rd anniversary of the military coup, checkpoints and departmental offices have been expanded and travelers are being strictly checked.

“At the entrance of SarMaw, a checkpoint has been added casually. They check the NRC and if there is a large group of people, they ask them to get out of the car. They check all of the travelers’ cars and motorcycles. The biker was drugged in his motorbike’s tool box, they released him without arresting. They also check the cars’ trunk to travelers’ cars. It’s not convenient to travel now,” said the woman from above.

In addition to the inspections, there were also arrests at these checkpoints, and two travelers were arrested yesterday, according to a driver.

“I don’t know for sure. I heard that two people were arrested at the checkpoint yesterday, but I don’t know who were arrested and from which checkpoint they were arrested. I saw that militia forces have been added to the military checkpoints that asked for money before,” he said.

Previously, there were only five departments at the 21 Mile checkpoint, but departments such as Immigration Department, Police Department, Soldier Department, Traffic Police Department, Municipality Department, Militia, Transportation and Communication Department, Road Transport Administration Department, General Administration office and Transportation office have been added.
