According to the resident of Indaw, the SAC has prohibited the passage of traveler vehicles for an indefinite period due to an ongoing tension in Kyauktan Village at the intersection of Indaw and Htee Gyaint - ShweBo Road in the upper part of Sagaing Region.

“Since the road was closed, we can go only from Mandalay to Shwe Bo and from Myitkyina to Indaw. It’s been 4 days since the road was closed in Khyayktan. I don’t even know if we should turn back to Mandalay '' said a traveler who was stuck on the road in Shwebo yesterday to Pajau Media.

The SAC military and the joint forces of the Kachin Independence Army clashed in Kyauktan Village, Kawlin Town, and due to the ongoing tension, the SAC prohibited the passage of passenger vehicles for 5 days since February 23rd, in Kyauktan Village, which is the intersection of Indaw and Htee Gyaint - ShweBo Road.

“I heard that the small vehicles were allowed to pass if they gave money. Even so, not every vehicle is allowed. They checked every single vehicle and if they found something suspectable, that person has been investigated and arrested,” said a local resident of Indaw.

It is said that the passenger vehicles coming up from Mandalay are stuck at ShweBo, and the passenger vehicles coming from Myitkyina are also stuck at Indaw. In addition, passengers who cannot wait until the time of the road to reopen have to go from Mya Taung Road, known locally as East Road.

If one is inconvenienced due to the stuck, he/she can go from Mya Taung Road, known locally as East Road. There are about 10 checkpoints and it’s not too far from one checkpoint to another. Those are the checkpoints where several armed groups are stationed. It’s been a long-time since people haven’t been going through East Road, since the checkpoint fees are too high,” said the resident above.

According to the local residents, the prices of goods in some townships had skyrocketed during the previous road closure. Therefore, due to the indefinite closure of Kyauktan Road, people are worried that the price of goods will rise again and their livelihood will become inconvenient but it has been reported that Mandalay-Myitkyina road has reopened on the reported date of February 27th, 2024.
