The Snow Has Been Falling More Than Last Year In Putao Snow Mountain Area

Tourists said that the Putao Snow Mountain Area, which is a famous place in Kachin State, has already been covered with snow even at the beginning of the year.

“This year, it is snowing continuously more than usual. Last year, we had to travel 3 days from Zia Dam to see the ice. But this year, we just have to travel one day from Zia Dam to reach the place covered with ice and snow,” said a mountain hiker.

In previous years, it took a day trip by motorbike from Putao city to Zia Dam village, which is the foothills of the Snow Mountain, and from there to the top of ice-capped mountain, it took 3 days. But this year, the ice and snow can be seen even at Khan Tauk Myit Camp, which is only one day’s journey from Zia Dam village, to the south of Phong Yin Snow Mountain.

The snow has been falling continuously this year along the San Lut Chat valley road in Hkawng Lan Phu Town, which is a day trip from Putao.

In the Putao region, there are three places most visited by tourists, they are Phong Gan Razi, Phong Yin Mountain, Hkawng Lan Phu township and Sheng Hkaung region.

“In Putao, it has been cloudy and rainy almost every day since last month. On the side of the Snow Mountain, the snow has been showering all day,” said a porter.

Since the middle of January this year, the snow has been falling almost every day, and the ice is thicker than usual, according to Snow Mountain Tourism Companies.

The Putao region is also a thriving area for Snow Mountain Tourism from December to the end of May.
