After a sound bomb went off near the house of a Shanni militia leader, the sound of gunshots and heavy artillery have heard for two days in a row in Mohnyin, Kachin State, said local residents of the town.
“At 10 o’clock at night on February 1st, we heard the sound of gunfire near Aung Tha Pyay Ward and Htan Tha Pyin villages. At 11 o’clock at night on February 2nd, I heard the sounds of heavy weapons. It was raining at night, so I thought it was the sound of the thunder, but I knew it was the sound of heavy weapons after listening carefully,” said a male resident.
On February 1st, at around 10:30 AM in the morning, a sound bomb exploded in the sand pile near the house of a Shanni militia leader in Seng Yadanar Mon Ward.
“It wasn’t far from my house and the sound of the bomb was very loud. I didn’t even think it was a sound bomb. It didn’t hurt anyone, but the people panicked. The locals don’t even send their children to school in that evening for fear that it will become a worrying situation when the school opens,” said a local resident.
According to this incident, the SAC personnel and Shanni militia are going around in Mohnyin Town and in the days leading up to February 1st (before the silent strike day for the three-year anniversary of the coup), the local residents are saying that it may be a warning because of the three consecutive days of recruiting in Mohnyin Township.
The place where the bomb exploded is on the 60-feet road south of Seng Yadanar Mon Ward, which is a place where people are constantly travelling.
