The Two Youths Arrested by the Military Council in Indaw Township were Asked to Pay 3,000,000 MMK Each in Cash

In Sagaing Division, according to the elder brother of one of the arrested, two local men who were arrested and detained by the military council in Nat Mahote Gyi Village, Indaw Township on February 1 were forced to pay 3,000,000 MMK in cash on the 8th.

"On that day, my younger brother and his friend were returning home from Mohnyin on a motorbike. At 11:00 AM, they were confronted by the soldiers who asked where they came from and what they were doing. They arrested them whether they told the soldiers that they had just returned home because the school was closed," said the older brother.

The two local residents who were arrested are two young men who are in their last year of school at Mohnyin University.

"We didn't know that they were arrested. When they were arrested, a man from the village came and told us when he saw them. I didn't know where they were arrested until a week later. I only found out this morning where they were taken, so I immediately went and apologized. I begged them that my brother and his friend are students and were returning home as the school was closed and asked for their release, that's when I was told to choose them with 3,000,000 MMK each. I had to return home to find the money and pay the soldiers for the release of my brother and his friend" added the arrested man's brother.

The family members of the arrested said that after 8 days, they found out the news and was asked to pay 3,000,000 MMK in cash per release for one person when the soldiers called. They said that they did not know any news until a week after their arrest.

The two arrested youths did not write posts related to politics, nor were they related to those who are involved in politics, so it was impossible to arrest them, he added.

About 60 soldiers of the military council are wearing full military uniforms and are patrolling in Nat Mahote Gyi, Nat Mahote Kale, Moe Yu, Na Naung and Kyaw villages, Indaw Township
