The military council has announced that action will be taken against those who oppose the Ayeyarwady Myitsone Project in Kachin State if such opposition is made without solid evidence.

According to a statement released by the Office of the National Defense and Security Council, anyone who opposes the Myitsone Project approved by the military council without providing credible evidence will face legal action.

The statement further said that the Myitsone Project will be resumed in cooperation with China. It warned that if individuals or organizations oppose without solid evidence the activities authorized under the powers of relevant government departments and organizations, as well as companies and organizations that have been granted permission to operate and to carry out contract and registration related work, action will be taken in accordance with existing laws.

It was also announced that the previously suspended Ayeyarwady Myitsone Hydropower Project will be resumed in cooperation with the Ayeyarwady Myitsone-Upper Ayeyarwady Hydropower Project Steering Committee and the Chinese company Yunnan International Power Investment (SPICYN).
