Three civilians were killed and injured due to a landmine explosion in the Hpakant area, according to sources.

At around 10:30 a.m. on May 7, a landmine planted near the Hpakant–Lone Khin junction exploded, killing a 4 year old child and injuring two other civilians.

The mine was reportedly planted by the military council forces. The child who died was from Lone Khin Village, while the other two civilians sustained serious injuries.

In recent days, continuous clashes have been taking place in the Hpakant area between KIA joint forces and military council troops. The military council has also been continuously shelling the area with heavy weapons, causing frequent civilian casualties.

In addition, military council troops and allied militia forces operating in the Hpakant region have reportedly been confiscating and looting civilians’ valuable belongings, including money, jade, motorcycles, and vehicles at their own discretion.
