Three Detour Routes Still There Between Shwebo and Myitkyina

According to drivers, there are still three detour routes remaining along the Shwebo–Myitkyina section of the Mandalay–Myitkyina strategic highway, which was recently re-controlled by the military council.

After regaining control of the Htigyaing–Katha area, the military council reportedly reopened and reestablished control over the Mandalay–Myitkyina strategic highway section on May 9, a road that had been closed for a long period of time.

However, although travel is now possible along the Mandalay–Shwebo section of the strategic road, there are still three detour routes remaining between Shwebo and Myitkyina, sources said.

Residents in Myitkyina have expressed their desire for the entire Mandalay–Myitkyina strategic highway to be reopened as soon as possible. They also said that if the full route is reopened, commodity prices in Kachin State may decline slightly.
