Tightened Checks and Travel Restrictions at Military Council Gate in Tanghpre Village on Myitkyina-Myitsone Road

At the military council checkpoint in Tanghpre village on the Myitkyina-Putao road, Burmese military strictly inspecting travelers’ ID cards and have imposed travel restrictions. According to locals, only those coming from Putao, Sumpra Bum, and those holding Njang Yang registration are allowed to pass. Travelers from other areas are not permitted to cross, and even students from Njang Yang heading to school are being blocked.


Currently, military council troops are conducting intense checks at all entry and exit gates around Myitkyina. Travelers report increased inspections, detentions, and extortion of money at these checkpoints.


At the 21-mile checkpoint, ID checks are also very strict. Those without proper registration must carry a recommendation letter from village authorities, and even those with IDs are sometimes detained under various pretexts and released only after paying money.
