Township to Village Level Administrators Appointed Across Putao Township

According to local residents, administrators under the military council were simultaneously selected and appointed today, May 20, from the township level down to the village level throughout Putao District.

Under instructions from the state government, each village within every village was required to select one representative from every group of ten households (known as a ten-household leader). These representatives then voted to elect new village administrators for the term of the new government, according to a retired local administrator.

“The administrator selection process this time started with each village first choosing ten-household leaders. Then, from among those ten-household leaders, one hundred-household leader was selected. The hundred-household leaders from each village automatically became candidates for the administrator position. Those candidates were then voted on by representatives acting on behalf of the ten-household leaders,” he explained.

Today, voting for township-level administrators was conducted across the whole of Putao Township. On May 21, the vote lists must be submitted to the district administrative office, and within May, the results are expected to reach the state government level for approval.

Putao Township is administratively organized into 14 villages and 9 urban wards.
