Due to prolonged delays on the Mandalay-Myitkyina route, many commodity traders have incurred heavy losses, according to local traders in Myitkyina.
“A lot of fresh goods we ordered from the south arrived spoiled because of the travel delays. We lost both money and goods,” said a female fresh-goods vendor from Myitkyina.
Segments of the ring road between Mandalay and Myitkyina had become impassable due to heavy rain damaging the roads, causing hundreds of trucks to be stuck for several days. It wasn’t until July 22 that goods trucks started arriving in Myitkyina.
Although trucks have now reached the area, traders report significant losses as many of the goods were either damaged or rotten upon arrival.
On the Sapyae Nanta–Pyae Gyi road, one of the main detour routes dry weather allowed roads to reopen starting around 9:30 AM yesterday, allowing passenger vehicles, goods trucks, and dozens of six-wheeled cargo trucks to resume travel.
