According to local sources, residents in Putao town, Kachin State, are facing difficulties in transportation because the Military checkpoints are restricting the movement of civilians.
A resident said that at the checkpoint stationed at the Putao-Naung Mun-Hkawnglanghpu junction, people are only allowed to pass until 9 PM, causing difficulties for locals who need to travel.
“It’s not convenient because they put a checkpoint at the junction and restrict movement,” a local resident said.
On the other hand, it is reported that cargo trucks and passenger vehicles passing through the checkpoint are being taxed, and inspections and questioning are also being carried out.
“They collect tax from the vehicles passing through that checkpoint. If there are passengers, they conduct inspections and questioning,” the resident added.
That People’s Military checkpoint was first set up in February 2024, and it is known to be the only Military checkpoint on the way from Putao town.
