In Kachin State’s Hpakant town, a landmine explosion occurred in front of the government Office complex at around 8:30 p.m. yesterday, injuring two displaced civilians, according to reports.

The two internally displaced persons, who had been staying at Myo Oo Pagoda, were injured when the explosion occurred near the Office complex while they were out shopping, a local resident from Hpakant told Pajau Media.

“It seems like a landmine, but we are not sure exactly what type of explosive it was. Two people were injured. One of them is in serious condition and is being sent to Myitkyina,” the local resident said.

Among the two injured, one sustained shrapnel wounds to the thigh, while the other is in critical condition and arrangements are being made to transfer them to Myitkyina Hospital.

In Hpakant town, innocent civilians are frequently injured and killed due to the military council’s indiscriminate shelling with heavy artillery and drone attacks.
