Two Civilians Killed by Junta Artillery Shelling in Hupin Town

On May 26, in Hupin , Mohnyin District, Kachin State, two local residents were killed and one seriously injured after an artillery shell fired by the junta’s Infantry Battalion 389 struck a home, according to Kachin Human Rights Watch (KHRW).


The artillery shell landed and exploded at the home of U Chan Maung (age 62), resulting in the deaths of both U Chan Maung and his wife, Daw Khin Pyone (age 58). Another resident, Daw Tin Nu (age 50), suffered severe injuries to both legs and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.


The shelling occurred around 5:00 PM on May 24, when Infantry Battalion 389, based in Nant Mun, indiscriminately fired heavy artillery into the area.


On the same day, intense clashes also broke out between KIA Battalion 26 and joint forces of the junta and the Shan State People’s Army near Sanone Hill.
