It has been learned that two female teachers from the Waingmaw Township area, who were arrested at the Balaminhtin Bridge in late October, have now been released earlier this week.
“One of the two teachers was arrested because there was a photo of her wearing a military uniform. She has now been released after negotiations through the PCG group. Fortunately, the photo didn’t show a KIA emblem, which helped her case. She explained that the photo was taken long ago when she just tried on the uniform, and that’s why they let her go,” said a local resident.
In recent days, the military council has been conducting inspections and interrogations not only at Balaminhtin Bridge but also in other parts of the city. Those deemed suspicious have been arrested and later forced to pay money for their release, locals reported. As such, community elders have warned young people to be especially cautious when traveling.
Since regular inspections and questioning continue at Balaminhtin Bridge, locals said people should be very careful about suspicious photos or online contacts, as the bridge has effectively become one of the main locations used by the military council for arrests and interrogations.
