Two Men Found Shot Dead in Hpakant Area

Two men were found shot dead this morning in Yuma Village and Mashi Kahtawng Ward of Hpakant Township, Kachin State, according to local residents.

“A gunshot was heard last night. When we went out in the morning, we found the bodies of two men who had been shot dead,” said a local man.

It remains unclear which armed group was responsible for the killings, the source added.

Among the two men found dead, one was discovered near the a restaurant in Yuma Village, while the other was found in Mashi Kahtawng Ward, Section (D), according to reports.

Both the military council and the resistance forces have imposed separate curfews in Hpakant and Myitkyina, prohibiting movement between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.

At present, military council troops are conducting offensives in an attempt to regain control over the Hpakant area, while continuing a series of airstrikes, local sources said.
