Two Men Shot Dead on Maw Si Zar Road in Hpakant Area

It has been learned that two men were shot dead this morning, around 10:30 AM on August 22, along the highway near Maw Si Zar Village in Hpakant area, Kachin State.

One of the victims, identified as 45 year old Chit Naing, was shot dead near Sein Cho Betel Nut Shop on the main road in Maw Si Zar Village. The other victim, who has not been identified, was killed on the highway near the Maw Si Zar Village junction.

A local woman from Hpakant said that the area is no longer a safe or peaceful place to live as before, and residents constantly feel concerned for their safety.

“Even when staying at home, we are afraid of heavy weapons, we are afraid that airstrikes might come, so we always live in fear and anxiety. I had to ask my husband to go jade mining just so we could survive. But then we hear news about people being shot dead here and there, and I can’t help worrying whether something might happen to him too,” she said.

In addition, it was reported that today, artillery shells fired by the Military Council forces landed and exploded near Mashi Kahtawng Market.
