KIA joint forces attacked three military junta helicopters transporting weapons and supplies to Bhamo in Kachin State, shooting down two while the third retreated to Myitkyina airbase, according to a confirmation by the Banmaw Scout Team, a local news source covering the area.
Today, on May 20, allied resistance forces targeted three military helicopters coming from Myitkyina. One helicopter crashed and exploded near Sin Khan village, while another made an emergency landing in Shwegu. The remaining helicopter returned to the Myitkyina airbase.
Sources indicate that these helicopters were delivering reinforcements, weapons, and supplies to junta troops stationed in Bhamo. The battle for Bhamo has intensified over the past five months, with the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) previously shooting down and damaging junta helicopters.
Meanwhile, clashes continue between junta forces, allied People’s Defense Forces (PDF), and KIA joint forces near Tadar Nyi Naung village in Hpakant Township as of May 19. Fighting escalated on May 18 along the Hpakant road between Seng Hpra and Tadar Nyi Naung.
Since late April, the military regime has launched large-scale offensives in an attempt to retake Hpakant. As of today, daily clashes persist, with both sides maintaining high military tensions.
