U Hkyet Hting Nan and Daw Doi Bu to Contest from Kachin State

The list of candidates for various parliamentary seats from Kachin State was released yesterday, October 19.

It has been reported that Kachin State Chief Minister U Hkyet Hting Nan, former junta member Daw Doi Bu, and Daw Gunhtang Kaw Shen, the wife of former militia leader Lasang Awng Wa, will contest in the upcoming election organized by the military council.

Chief Minister U Hkyet Hting Nan will run for the Kachin State Parliament representing Myitkyina, while former junta member Daw Doi Bu will contest for the Lower House from Kachin State Constituency No. 5. In addition, Daw Gunhtang Kaw Shen will run for the seat representing the Waimaw constituency.

Both U Hkyet Hting Nan and Daw Doi Bu were elected parliamentarians in the 2010 election, and they also ran in the 2015 and 2020 elections. They are now running again in the 2025 election.

The first phase of the election organized by the military council is scheduled to begin on December 28 in 102 townships.
