The Union Election Commission (UEC) has announced that elections cannot be held in a total of 106 villages and wards in Kachin State for election parts (1) and (2).

The UEC stated that conditions are not conducive for holding free and fair elections, and therefore elections will not be conducted in these areas.

The areas where elections will not be held include 45 villages and wards in Tanai, Hpakant, Moenyin, and Myitkyina townships for election part (1), and 61 villages and wards in Machangbaw, Mogaung, and Wainmaw townships for election part (2).

In addition, the UEC had previously announced on 14 September that elections could not be held in four other townships: Chipwe, Sawlaw, Suamprabum, and Njang Yang.

These townships include areas under the control of KIA joint forces. Some of the currently announced areas are also locations where intense fighting is ongoing, and some of them are under KIA control.
