Unclaimed Body Found in Moehnyin

An unidentified, unclaimed dead body was discovered within the town park area of Moehnyin in Kachin State, according to Mattar Lay Nyin Organization.

“Based on the condition of the body, it appears to be an elderly individual in poor health. There was no identification card, and it's unlikely the deceased was from Moehnyin. It seems likely the person came from another region. We’ve documented photographs for record-keeping purposes in case relatives come searching later,” said a member of the Mattar Lay Nyin team.

The body was found on July 29 and was transported to Moehnyin General Hospital’s morgue by the assistance team around 6 p.m., according to reports.

In addition, on July 17, another unclaimed body was discovered near the Moehnyin-Thin Lin theatre site.

A similar incident occurred yesterday, July 30, at Gandawin mining area in Awng Ra village, located in the Hpakant-Lone Khin administrative region. A body was found floating in the water, as confirmed by the Lone Khin Funeral Support Team.

“We were requested to help transport the body. After notifying the relevant authorities and receiving permission, we brought it back. According to identification records, the deceased was from Pin Thar Village in Mogoung Township. But there’s no contact available to notify the family. We encourage anyone who knew the deceased to contact their family,” a team member stated.

Currently, the body is stored in the cremation chamber at the Lone Khin cemetery. Due to its decomposing condition, the body is expected to be cremated today with the necessary permissions from concerned authorities.

Unclaimed bodies are being discovered more frequently in Kachin State, and due to communication issues caused by disruptions to mobile networks, the deceased often have to be buried as unclaimed, according to members of various community support organizations.
