An unidentified male body was found yesterday, July 16, around 4 p.m. at the Htilin Monastery Theater in Mohnyin town, according to a Myitta social assistance group.

“A local official informed us that there was a deceased man at the Htilin Monastery Theater. The body was transferred to the general hospital morgue at 5 p.m. yesterday. There was no identification card, and the man’s identity is unknown. The body will be kept at the morgue for one night. If nobody comes forward to claim it, it will be buried as an unclaimed body,” said a member of the social group.

The hospital is currently examining the body to ascertain the identity and the cause of death. If no family members appear, the body will be treated as unclaimed and buried as such.

With phone and internet lines down in Mohnyin, it is difficult to contact or trace nearby family members. As a result, unclaimed bodies have been buried, with at least three such cases within the past month, according to sources.
